Biography
My name is David Wolkovitz. I was born on May 16th, 1989, Israel. When I was one year old, I moved with my parents to Belgium. When I turned six , we returned to Israel, where my parents handed me my first markers and crayons. Since then, I haven't stopped creating and drawing.
At fifteen, I went to an exhibition of the art department's graduates at "Alon High School". There I was first exposed to realistic paintings, and immediately decided to set myself a goal - to become a realistic painter. I began my studies at the art department in "Alon Hig School", and started my life as a realistic painter. Step by step, I developed technics and methods that I thought were the best for me. Though I created realistic paintings, I never got close to a brush, and I was afraid to make that step. I used Pitt Pastels for five years till the age of twenty one.
In 2007, I drafted to the IDF, and served as a commander and officer. In my house, we never knew wealth. My father was a designer and was often unemployed, and my mother was a translator. They divorced when I was eight years old, and subsequently I moved in with my mother. When I turned fifteen, I moved in with my father till the end of my military service. We chose an apartment that had a large working space, similar to a studio. That was when I discovered the qualities of oil.
I dedicated one entire year to create my biggest pieces, which are presented on this page. Throughout the years I've been painting, and listening to music that represents the different periods of my becoming. That music has become the soundtrack to my life.
Hence - All of my paintings are named after songs that inspired me during those different stages. My art and my background music harmonize and reflect my feelings during those beautiful moments that I spent alone with my brushes and canvas.
The theme behind every single piece, begins when I explore my surroundings using my DSLR camera and eyes. I capture moments that cannot be appreciated by solely using the naked eye. Then, I dive into the world of photography, which inspires me to pick simple frames. I turn a moment usually enjoyed for a mere second - into an everlasting creation. I analyse my photography thorougly before I let my brush come close to the canvas. Every little detail and texture needs to get my full attention, every layer needs to come in the precise order.
If it's not so - It's not my creation.
